makes headlines. Facebook itself doesn’t pay much attention but silence.
If you feel your Facebook password is leaked or the account
is split, react quickly! Facebook hackers could lock you from the account and
torment your friends and family. Protect your Facebook account and get it back
before being late.
How to Know that Your Facebook Account Was Hacked
On this occasion, if any Facebook hacker gets into your
account, they will leave a trace. To check these traces, log in to the Facebook
account and click the arrowhead located
at the top right and go to the Account menu. From there go to Settings & privacy > Settings and next
to the Security login.
At the top of the page, you can see a list of devices that
you have recently logged into your Facebook account and the time they were
active.
Click See More and check the list and inspect the earlier
sessions.
Some other signs that your Facebook account has been hacked
are :
- Personal data like passwords, email addresses, phone numbers, or names are changed by any third party. Go to Settings > General and check the Contact information. Click the separate fields and check them. There will be all the telephone numbers connected to your account under Settings > Mobile.
- A friend requested and private messages sent that you have no idea about. In the Settings section, go to Your Facebook Information > Access Your Information and check the details there.
- Containing posts in your timeline that you didn’t post or permit. Click the profile picture in the top right and see the timeline. If you cannot find it then click the hamburger menu icon and you will see the picture in the top left.
If you notice any doubtful activity with your logins or see
any sign like that, you can study what to do in the next part.
What to Do If your Facebook Account is Hacked
If you are sure the account is hacked, follow these steps.
1a. Change the Facebook Password
Just in case the hacker hasn’t changed the account password,
you are lucky. Right away update the password before login out from the unsure
sessions and no need of arousing the hacker. If you are late, go to the second step.
In Settings >
Security and Login, scroll down to log in and click on Change Password. Give the
present password, make a new strong password, and Save Changes.
Next, you will see a Password Changed confirmation window.
It will ask you to review other devices or stay logged in. Select the former
and Continue.
Log Out of the Facebook Sessions
After you have changed the password, return to Where You’re
Logged in. Or click the three vertical dots to log out of each session. Log Out
Of All Sessions. This option is in the bottom right after enlarging the list.
What we recommend you is to log out completely, given your contact details and security settings are not expired. You don’t have to endanger the methods of logging back in. If you are unconfident, log out of all recent sessions that you feel suspicious about.
Secure Your Account
You can set aside each session as Not You. You will see a
pop-up with the details of the sessions.
Click Secure Account if you don’t find the location, device,
and last activity. Click Get Started to set off the automated step-by-step
steps to secure the account.
The next image shows the steps of the process. Click
Continue.
After it's done, you will be moved to the feed. If you still feel like the account is exposed, go to step 3.
1b. Reset Your Facebook Password
If the hacker has changed your password, and you have to
recover the Facebook account, react quickly. Try to gain access. There is a
link under the Facebook login as Forgot your password?
This will support you to recover the password using many
ways. First Find your Account. You can give the email address that used to
register to Facebook or any other email
address you have added. Or else your phone number.
If Facebook finds your Facebook account, you can select the methods to Reset Your Password.
On some occasions, Facebook sends a recovery code to the
email address that is added to the account. It is better to define multiple
backup emails addressed to your Facebook account. And you have to keep the
accounts secure, using strong passwords and notes to enable two-factor authentication
on the email accounts.
You can use the link No
longer have access to these? Facebook asks you how to confirm your identity.
This can take some time
If you notice the Facebook hacker's access to your Facebook
account has been misused, go to step 2.
2. Report the Facebook Hack
If your account is simply hacked, but it sends ads and spam
to your friends, you should settle a dispute.
As well as you can use this if you lose access to your Facebook account through a phishing attack. FAcebooks will support you in recovering access to your account.
3. Remove Suspicious Applications
Frequently, it's not a bad person that has hacked your
account. You may have allowed access to a malicious Facebook application that
later stole your account.
To remove unsure applications, go to settings > Apps and
Websites and check the list. Click See
More to enlarge the Active apps and websites. Put a mark on apps and websites
you need to remove. There is a Remove button on the top right and conform if you need to “delete posts,
photos on your timeline” in the sources.
4. Do Damage Control
After everything is done to gain access again to the
hacked Facebook account, inform the friends about the incident.
This is a safety method if the hacker has used the account
to interact with people. If you cannot access the account at the moment,
contact your Facebook friends using another social network like email or
inform your mutual friends.
How to Improve Facebook's Privacy and Security Settings
When you get the control back, receive the Facebook
settings.
Go to Settings > General, update the contact details,
and add more email addresses or phone numbers that you can access. Like that
remove the data you have no access to.
Go to Settings > Security and Login to make extra security
measures like alerts and unknown logins, two-factor authentication, and select
some trusted friends to recover your Facebook account.
Under Settings > Privacy select the privacy settings that
you like. It's better to let only friends see future posts and limit the
visibility of previous posts.
Remember that the most important security feature is two-factor authentication. We recommend you set up two-factor authentication on all of our social counts. Use Microsft Authenticator and Google
Authenticator with Facebook.
